Hickies Story

Hickies has a long and deep history within the city of Reading and the county of Berkshire. Founded in 1864 by William Hickie, the store quickly became an authority on pianos and instrument trading in the region. In 1913 Frank Elphick purchased Hickies Music from William Hickie setting up the business as a limited company with his family. Throughout the 20th & 21st centuries Hickies has evolved over time by expanding to sell electrical goods, vinyl records, guitars, electronic instruments, sheet music and providing rental services and musical tuition to customers. Hickies has a strong place in Reading’s history & future, helping to promote local music events and communities, teaching the community how to play their favourite songs, helping those of all ages find their dream instrument & musical potential. No job is ever too small and our customers are incredibly valuable not only to us but the musical community in Reading and the across the U.K.
