Description

Ibanez created the GRX120SP to give new players and weekend giggers a taste of RG-style speed without the sticker shock. The slightly downsized poplar body feels light on the shoulder yet still dishes out a solid mid-range punch, while deep contouring on the front and back tucks the guitar neatly against the torso. Metallic Light Blue Matte paint sits under a satin clear-coat that glows under stage lamps but shrugs off fingerprints, and two other colours—Vivid Red and Pale Blue—offer the same sparkle sheen for players who like a different hue.

Bolt-on simplicity keeps the neck joint tight and serviceable. A single piece of maple is carved to the comfortable GRX profile, measuring under twenty millimetres at the first fret and just a hair thicker by the twelfth. Paired with the smooth satin finish, the carve encourages fast position shifts and wide-span chords. The bound jatoba fingerboard supplies a touch of mid warmth and hosts twenty-two medium frets on a moderate twelve-inch radius, so barre chords feel relaxed yet bends soar without fretting out.

Electronics follow the less-is-more mantra but still deliver broad tonal ground. A pair of Infinity R ceramic humbuckers sits close to the strings for tight bass response and crisp upper mids, essential when you crank gain. The five-way blade lets you flick between full humbucker muscle, parallel clarity and bright single-coil voices, making it easy to cover clean funk, crunchy rhythm and singing leads from one instrument. A single volume and tone circuit keeps the playing field uncluttered, leaving nothing to snag an aggressive down-stroke.

The T106 tremolo rounds out the hardware package. Six bent-steel saddles adjust individually for precise action and intonation, strings thread through the block for dependable sustain, and the six-point pivot lets you add shimmer and dives without the maintenance overhead of a double-locking system. Chrome sealed tuners, knurled metal control knobs and a black plastic nut complete the straightforward, road-ready build. Straight from the factory the GRX120SP arrives with nine-to-forty-two strings in standard tuning, weighing in around three-point-two kilograms and set up with a low, fast action that begs for practice-session marathons.

Features

Poplar Dinky-Sized Body

Lightweight poplar reduces shoulder strain and the RG-inspired contours let the guitar sit close, making wide arm sweeps and upper-fret reaches feel natural during long rehearsals.

Fast GRX Maple Neck

A slim maple shaft reinforced by a scarf joint measures just nineteen-and-a-half millimetres deep at the nut, keeps its shape through humidity swings, and rides under a satin finish that stays slick even when the palms get sweaty.

Bound Jatoba Fingerboard with Medium Frets

The reddish jatoba board warms the high end, while twenty-two medium frets on a twelve-inch radius offer a friendly surface for both chord comping and expressive bends.

Infinity R Ceramic Humbuckers with Five-Way Switching

Ceramic magnets track rapid pick attack and tight palm-mutes, and the versatile selector unlocks parallel and coil-split tones for glassy cleans and cutting mid-gain crunch without extra wiring.

T106 Six-Saddle Tremolo Bridge

A vintage-style six-point trem anchors strings securely through the bridge block, offers smooth pitch dips and rises, and lets each saddle move for spot-on intonation.
